Apple has added the open source Xvid codec to its list of QuickTime components on Apple.com… maybe now Xvid will finally make it into iTunes and the AppleTV.
Google Desktop released for Mac
There’s a bit of confusion out in the community since Google announced its popular Desktop application would be available to Mac users. Why so? Sure, it’s a hit on the Windows platform because it brings functionality that isn’t already built into the OS (surprise!) but on Mac OS X 10.4 we have Spotlight. With a simple key-combination of Command-Space (or use the menubar icon) you can launch an app or open a document with just a simple keyword search. Google Desktop apparently does the same thing, except with Google-y goodness. Hmm… I smell a review coming up!

WTF Code: Reinventing the Web
Our friends at Daily WTF bring us some code hilarity: …David had some time on his hands and a great idea for a web app: that’s the recipe for success. Wanting to concentrate on the PHP back-end, he brought in a friend to develop the AJAX front-end. Unfortunately, things started to get thorny when it came to connecting the two.
